Armistead: RNC and ALGOP Recognize Romney as Presumptive Nominee

BIRMINGHAM, AL – With the suspended campaigns of Senator Rick Santorum and Speaker Newt Gingrich, combined with Governor Mitt Romney’s overwhelming lead for the Republican nomination for President, Alabama Republican Party Chairman, Bill Armistead, released the following statement today:

“Last week, the Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced that the RNC is beginning to officially work with the Romney for President Campaign in order to consolidate their efforts to defeat President Barack Obama. What this means going forward is that the RNC and the Romney for President Campaign will be working closely together on fundraising, messaging and the all-important ground game.

“I know many Alabamians supported different candidates throughout the course of this campaign, but now is the time for us to unite behind our presumptive nominee – former Gov. Mitt Romney.  The ties that bind Republicans together are far greater than the differences we might have as a Party.  We must now be united in our resolve to defeat President Barack Obama in November.

“Our country is suffering from a failing economy, staggering unemployment rates, rising gas prices and an ever-increasing cost of living. One thing is clear – our country cannot afford four more years with Barack Obama in the White House.

“When I spoke to Governor Romney last week I assured him that I will be casting my vote for him as an Alabama delegate to the Republican National Convention in August, and that we will work tirelessly for his election in Alabama. Together we will make sure that Barack Obama is a one-term president.”
