ALGOP Applauds Passage of Harold Sachs-Anne Roberts Act

The Alabama Republican Party released the following statement after the passage of the revised Harold Sachs-Anne Roberts Act by the Alabama Legislature:

“In fall of 2020, the Alabama Republican Party lost our longtime friend, mentor, and Chief of Staff Harold Sachs. Just over a year later, he was joined by Anne Roberts, the wife of State Senator Dan Roberts.

“Both were forced to fight their battle with COVID-19 without the support of their families. Pandemic restrictions left them without an advocate at their bedside to be their voice when they needed it most. They died alone.

“Unfortunately, Harold and Anne’s stories are not unique. Countless patients and their families around the state were affected by these restrictions, and kept away from their loved ones.

“This legislation changes that story, ensuring patients are treated with respect and dignity by allowing them access to a family member while hospitalized.

“The Alabama Republican Party has always stood for protecting people’s basic rights and freedoms, and we are excited about this bill’s passage. No one should be forced to die alone. We would like to thank the Sachs family for their tireless efforts, as well as the bill sponsors and the State Legislature, for defending medical freedom in the State of Alabama. As Harold always said, ‘Never be afraid to fight for what is right.'”
