Alabama GOP Celebrates Enactment of Historic School Choice Legislation

Moments ago, Governor Kay Ivey signed HB129 into law. This legislation makes Alabama the 11th state to pass universal School Choice. Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl issued the following statement celebrating the impact of School Choice, and thanking the bill sponsors as well as Governor Kay Ivey for their work on this important issue.

“Today marks a historic achievement for the State of Alabama in the battle for education freedom and parental rights. The Alabama Republican Party has been working tirelessly towards School Choice for years, and we are thrilled to see the enactment of HB129. There is still much to do in the fight for school freedom, but this bill takes a massive step forward in putting parents back in control of their children’s education,” said Chairman Wahl. “A child’s quality of education should never be based on their background or where they live. We firmly believe that every family should have the opportunity to secure a better education, and School Choice is a pivotal component in accomplishing that goal.”

“HB129 represents groundbreaking legislation that exemplifies the commitment of Republican leaders to prioritize the future of our state’s students. This new chapter in education stands as a testament to the Republican Party’s unwavering dedication to empowering families and advancing educational opportunities throughout Alabama. On behalf of the Alabama GOP, I extend our heartfelt appreciation to the legislators – especially bill sponsors Representative Danny Garrett and Senator Arthur Orr – as well as Governor Ivey for their collaborative efforts in making this critical advancement possible. This accomplishment, now officially signed into law, is poised to positively impact the educational landscape of Alabama, creating a brighter future for generations to come,” said Chairman Wahl.
