A SAD DAY FOR THE CHILDREN OF ALABAMA
– SHAMEFUL DEMOCRATS –
Montgomery, AL – Montgomery Circuit Judge Charles Price ruled in favor of the AEA lawsuit blocking Alabama’s Children from receiving the education they deserve. A temporary restraining order was issued until March 15th. This will prevent Governor Bentley from signing into law the “Accountability Act of 2013,” which was passed by the legislature last Thursday.
ALGOP Chairman Bill Armistead has issued the following statement:
“This is a sad day for the children of Alabama. Today, we have witnessed the old Democrat party politics at its worst. It seems that AEA and these liberal Democrat special interests are more important than a child receiving an equal chance at a better education.
“Democrats have had decades upon decades to reform education in Alabama and give every child a chance at a quality education. And what do they do when reform finally comes under the Republican leadership? Do they embrace it? No! They run to the courts to try to undo what the legislature has done to help children get out of failing schools. How shameful!
“Last Thursday was a historical day in Alabama. With the passing of the Alabama Accountability Act of 2013, EVERY child will have the equal opportunity at a better education. I am confident that in the end Governor Bentley will be signing this legislation, and when he does, all children will finally have a chance to get out of a failing school so they can reach their full potential,” says Chairman Armistead.
The Alabama Accountability Act provides a local school system with more flexibility from cookie-cutter approach regulations and provides an escape route to school children trapped in failing schools. It also allows local school systems to appeal to the State Board of Education for relief from burdensome rules and regulations that stifle innovation and hinder the ability to attempt new methods of teaching.
