Yesterday morning over 100 Alabamians welcomed former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum and many statewide and local Republican candidates to a political rally in the town square of Troy, AL. We were so fortunate to have Sen. Santorum back in Alabama. He carried Alabama in the 2012 Republican presidential primary, and has returned to our state many times. Alabamians love his steadfast conservative ideals and turned out to hear him and our own conservative leaders!
We chose the Pike County location because it is a county that is transitioning from being a strong Democrat controlled county to a Republican County. We now have an elected Republican Probate judge and Circuit Clerk who were elected in 2012. Now it’s time to take the offices of Sheriff and Revenue Commissioner. And we have great candidates for each. Jason Youngblood is our candidate for Sheriff and Bo Weed is our candidate for Revenue Commissioner. The rally began at 7:30AM with an enthusiastic crowd. Television and print reporters gathered to interview as candidates mingled with local citizens in the square. We were so glad a large group of students from Pike Liberal Arts School were able to take time to come and get involved in such an exciting part the election process. Not much is more American than an old-fashioned political rally.
The Alabama Republican Party worked with the Pike County Republican Party to organize the event. We are ever thankful for our county affiliates and their continuous hard work to support Republicans up and down the ticket. It is always great to be able to bring so many candidates together to meet with the people and spread Republican ideals. Pike County Probate Judge Wes Allen, State Senator Jimmy Holley and Revenue Commissioner candidate Jerome “Bo” Weed were all at the rally.
Two of our Republican statewide candidates also made the trip to Troy. Representative John Merrill, candidate for Secretary of State, was spotted campaigning throughout the square. Afterwards he said, “It was an honor and privilege to be a part of such an outstanding, well organized political rally for state and local candidates featuring Senator Rick Santorum at the square in Troy! Senator Santorum clearly defined our conservative values and his message resonated with the more than 100 people who were gathered. The audience consisted of students, senior adults, as well as business men and women who are looking to make a difference in Pike County, the wiregrass and the state as a whole. We look forward to a very positive response to this message in 25 days.”
We couldn’t agree more! The Alabama Republican candidate line-up for this election season is the best we’ve ever had. Strong, responsible conservatives have offered themselves up for service from the local level, like Jason Youngblood and Bo Weed in Pike County, to the congressional level like Second District Congresswoman Martha Roby, who represents Pike County. We are a proud state with a proud Republican Party.
Attorney General Luther Strange was the second statewide candidate walking through the crowds. Easy to spot due to his height, Luther was surrounded by supporters eager to speak with him. “I was proud to join fellow Republicans in welcoming Senator Rick Santorum back to Alabama,” Luther stated. “Two years after he carried our state his brand of common sense conservatism remains as popular as ever. Like Rick, I also believe the solutions to our country’s problems won’t come from a bloated federal government but from the ingenuity and indomitable spirit of the American people. I have devoted my time as Alabama’s Attorney General to standing up for these same values and I was honored to receive Rick’s support as I hope to serve Alabamians for another four years.” Luther is running for re-election after a solid first term in the Attorney General’s office.
We thank everyone who took the time to join us in Troy! It was a great stop along the road to victory on November 4. There are political events going on almost daily across the state. We encourage you to get involved and attend them! Follow your candidates on social media and get in touch with your county party to make sure you are in the know.
