Secretary of State Beth Chapman said today that as predicted, about 20% of Alabama’s voter’s turned out to the polls yesterday for the Special Constitutional Amendment Election. Secretary Chapman had predicted around 20-21% turnout by looking at the numbers in past special constitutional amendment elections.
“While we do wish that number would have been higher, I am glad that the 20% did go out and exercise their right to vote yesterday,” Secretary Chapman said.
Chapman’s focus now will be on the upcoming November election and two additional special elections coming up in October for House Districts 30 and 34 as well as municipal run-off elections. If an eligible Alabama citizen is not registered, is unsure of their registration status, or needs more information concerning the upcoming elections, they should contact their local board of registrars. They can also visit www.alabamavotes.gov or call 1-800-274-VOTE (1-800-274-8683).
The deadline for voter registration for the November election is October 26th and the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for November 6th will be November 1st.
