Birmingham, AL – At their summer meeting in Boston, the RNC passed a resolution calling for CNN and NBC to cancel the airing of a miniseries promoting former Secretary Hillary Clinton. The RNC believed that airing the footage would show political favoritism and would destroy the credibility of CNN and NBC as unbiased news networks. The RNC firmly stated that should the networks refuse to cancel the airing, the Republican candidates for President would not participate in any 2016 presidential primary debates on CNN or NBC.
Due in large part to a grassroots push against CNN and NBC, both networks have announced that they will not air the miniseries featuring Hilary Clinton.
ALGOP Chairman Bill Armistead made the following statements:
“I am proud to say that I, together with Alabama’s National Committeeman Paul Reynolds and National Comitteewoman Vicki Drummond, fully supported the boycott resolution presented in Boston. The RNC should be in control of the Republican primary debate process and should not be subjected to news organizations who clearly display bias.
“The cancellation of the Hillary infomercials is a testament to the power of the Republican grassroots organization. It is a clear statement that we will stand strong against unfair treatment. For too long, the liberal national media have been prejudiced against Republican candidates and the RNC has drawn a line in the sand over this issue and will continue to push back against this bias.
“Our primary debates are fundamental, they are an opportunity to inform and engage a national audience, the success of this resolution moves the Republican Party one step closer to controlling our debate process. We are also going to be working with the Republican Presidential candidates in the future in determining who moderates these debates. We will no longer allow moderators like CNN’s Candy Crowley who became engaged in the debate herself as she did last year when she interjected her opinion on whether or not President Obama had called the attacks in Benghazi, Libya “acts of terror.”
