RNC Calls on DNC Chair to Apologize for Adviser’s Comments Demeaning Mothers

WASHINGTON – Last night Democratic National Committee adviser Hilary Rosen claimed that Ann Romney, mother of five, has “never worked a day in her life.” The RNC released a statement calling on DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz to apologize to mothers all across the country who work tirelessly raising their families:

“Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz should immediately apologize for the insulting and insensitive comments of her adviser, Hilary Rosen. To suggest that any mother has ‘never worked a day in her life,’ is an affront to mothers everywhere. Democrats continue to attack Republicans for a ‘war on women’ even as they attack women with devastating economic policies and offensive rhetoric. The hypocrisy is appalling. Four years ago, President Obama and his fellow Democrats ran on ‘hope and change.’ Now, to distract from the fact that the Obama economy has failed women, they have resorted to cynical and desperate tactics.” –Kirsten Kukowski, RNC Press Secretary

Hilary Rosen Was “Enlisted” By The Obama Campaign To Advise DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “Obama advisers have occasionally told her to ‘tone it down’ and ‘back off a smidgen,’ Ms. Wasserman Schultz says. She agreed with them to enlist two seasoned Democratic female pros, Anita Dunn and Hilary Rosen, to begin giving her occasional political advice and media training, advisers say.” (Monica Langley, “Combative Top Democrat Gains Clout In Campaign,” The Wall Street Journal, 2/16/12)
