Mr. John Wahl of Limestone County was elected as the new chairman of the Alabama Republican Party at its State Executive Committee meeting in Montgomery this weekend. The body elected him by acclimation.
Statement from John Wahl:
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the people of Alabama as Chairman of the ALGOP. I look forward to working with other members of the Republican Party, our elected officials, and especially the people of Alabama.
“I hope that my background as a small businessman will bring a common sense approach to the political process. I ran for Chairman of the ALGOP because I believe in the values that made America great, and I want to be a part of securing those values and those freedoms for future generations. I believe Government’s first priority should be serving the people, and I hope we never lose sight of that.
“I believe it’s important for the Republican Party to stand for the conservative values we are based upon and defend the God-given rights of every individual. We are the Party of free speech, equal rights, family values, and fair elections. A lot of these values are under attack right now, and I am committed to defending them as Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party.
“The people of Alabama stand for conservative values, and they understand why these issues are so important. I want everyone to know that I share these values, and that my promise to the people of Alabama is that the Republican Party will stand with them no matter what we face in the coming years.
“My goal is to help the Republican Party be more effective and more successful in the coming years. We will continue to build the party both here in Alabama and across the Country. We are going to be strong, organized, and ready to take on the 2022 election cycle.”
Prior to his election as Chairman, Mr. Wahl served as the ALGOP Senior Vice Chairman, and has been active in Republican Party politics for the last decade. He was a member of Alabama’s Electoral College delegation in 2020, and part of U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s transition team. Professionally, Chairman Wahl is a butterfly farmer, and raises butterflies for zoos, botanical gardens, and exhibits across the country.
He succeeds former Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan of Mobile County, who announced last December she would not be seeking a fourth term as chairman.
