Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead has issued a statement following the recent canvassing of the vote, and announcement of the recount in State Senate District 6 between Sen. Roger Bedford and Dr. Larry Stutts:
“The State Canvassing Board has officially certified Dr. Larry Stutt’s victory against long-time Democrat State Senator Roger Bedford in Senate District 6 by a margin of 67 votes. Since Dr. Stutts’ margin of victory was less than one half of one percent, Alabama state law requires that an automatic recount take place.
“I know the wishes of the voters in Senate District 6 will be honored and respected once the recount, scheduled for December 1, is completed. I am confident the results of the recount will confirm Dr. Stutts has defeated Senator Bedford. I have known and served in the Senate with Senator Bedford for many years; and while we have often found ourselves on different sides of the issues, I have no doubt Senator Bedford will do what is in the best interest of the people he has represented in the Senate for three decades, and will immediately concede the race to Dr. Stutts to ensure there is a smooth transition.
“The voters of Senate District 6 will be pleased to learn Dr. Stutts has already been working hard for the citizens in the district, and has wasted no time in assuming the duties of his new role as State Senator for Colbert, Franklin and portions of Marion and Lawrence Counties. I am absolutely certain Dr. Stutts will be a strong voice for conservative values in Montgomery and will work hard to bring jobs and a prosperous economy to Senate District 6.”
