Cullman, AL – Randall Shedd will be the Republican nominee in House District 11 after winning a Special Primary Runoff Election today. Unofficial results show Shedd bested fellow Republican Danny Alldregde by a margin of 58.4% to 41.6%. There were 2,776 total votes cast.
A vacancy was created in House District 11 which includes portions of Blount, Cullman and Morgan Counties when long time State Representative Jeremy Oden, Republican, resigned the legislature last November to accept an appointment to the Alabama Public Service Commission.
“The fact that four Republican candidates qualified for this open seat contest and only one Democrat chose to seek office in House District 11 demonstrates that Democrats have fallen out of favor with the voters in Alabama because their liberal policies do not align with the vast majority of Alabama voters,” stated Bill Armistead, Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party.
Armistead continued, “Now that we have our Republican nominee, I am sure that we will see a very spirited general election campaign which will insure that a Republican continues to represent the people of House District 11. Voters in Blount, Cullman and Morgan Counties will have a clear choice on May 7th in the special general election. They will choose between Randall Shedd – a conservative Republican – or a Democrat whose party tried to delete God from their platform and promotes abortion and same sex marriage. I feel confident the conservative voters in House District 11 will stand with Randall Shedd on May 7th.”
Randall Shedd, a former county commissioner and current Director of the Cullman County Commission on Aging, lead in the Special Primary but did not break the 50% threshold needed to prevent a runoff. His opponent, Danny Alldredge, a former educator and school board member, will continue to be active in Cullman County. Both men give credit to their opponent for running a clean and positive race.
