ALGOP Statement on the Democrats’ Filibuster of Judge Gorsuch’s Senate Confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court

On Thursday morning, Senate Democrats voted to filibuster the Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan issued the following statement regarding the Democrats’ filibuster of the Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to SCOTUS:

“It is shameful that Senate Democrats are opposing Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation. With a judicial record of consistently upholding the law and applying it fairly, Judge Gorsuch is highly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. In 2,700 cases Judge Gorsuch was involved in on the 10th Circuit, he sided with the majority 99% of the time. He has one of the lowest overturn rates on the court.”

“The same Democrats currently attempting to block Judge Gorsuch’s nomination unanimously voted to confirm him to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2006. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Dianne Feinstein (ranking member of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary) and Senator Patrick Leahy all now strongly oppose Gorsuch’s confirmation but all voted to confirm him in 2006.”

“It’s time for the Senate Democrats to confirm Judge Gorsuch. The voters made their choice perfectly clear in November. The Alabama Republican Party is grateful to Senator Shelby and Senator Strange for supporting Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation to the United States Supreme Court. We are confident that Judge Gorsuch will be seated soon.”
