Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan issued the following statement on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court:
“The Alabama Republican Party eagerly awaits a conservative justice joining the Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch’s commitment to upholding the Constitution will be a welcome addition to the highest court in the nation.”
“Judge Gorsuch participated in notable cases opposing the Affordable Care Act’s mandate that required companies pay for birth control despite their religious beliefs. In these cases, Judge Gorsuch supported Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor, both under the Religious Freedom Restorations Act. In analyses of his legal writings and opinions, legal scholars strongly compare Judge Gorsuch to the late Supreme Court Justice Scalia.”
“In 2006, the Senate unanimously confirmed Judge Gorsuch for his current position as judge in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Judge Gorsuch received praise from both Democrat and Republican Senators.”
