Birmingham, AL – Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead extended congratulations to Dimitri Polizos Tuesday evening as election results for the House District 74 special election runoff indicated that Polizos will be the district’s next Representative. Polizos received 2,146 votes (57%) and Meadows received 1,601 votes (43%). Totals do not include provisional ballots, which will be counted next week.
The seat became vacant following the resignation of Representative Jay Love this past August and will be up for re-election in 2014 along with every member of the Alabama Legislature. There was no Democrat nominee for the seat; Dimitri Polizos will begin his term immediately. House District 74 includes parts of Montgomery County. Armistead’s statement was as follows:
“My congratulations go out to Dimitri Polizos for his successful campaign! Voters in House District 74 have selected yet another conservative who will join the Republican majority in the House to continue the progress made since Republicans took control in 2010. Our legislature has made tremendous progress since gaining the majority and I am confident thatDimitri Polizos will work to keep our state on the right track.
“I look forward to the beginning of the legislative session in January and the work that our leaders will be undertaking.”
