Alabama Republican Nominees Recognized by RSLC

Chairman of the Alabama Republican party, Bill Armistead, announced today that two Republican candidates for the Alabama House of Representatives have been recognized by the Washington-based Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) as candidates to watch in 2014. The RSLC named Darius Foster, candidate for House District 56 (Jefferson County), and Tijuanna Adetunji, candidate for House District 78 (Montgomery County), as two candidates that they believe are rising stars in the Republican Party. The RSLC named them two of 14 legislative races in the country to watch in 2014. This project is known as 14 in ’14 Races to Watch in the United States.

Darius Foster is one of 14 candidates in the United States who has been named to the RSLC’s The Future Majority Project, which places an emphasis on electing minorities to state legislatures. Foster is the Republican candidate for HD56. He is one of several African Americans running for office this year on the Republican ticket. The seat was held for five years by Rep. Lawrence McAdory, who was defeated in this year’s Democratic Primary by Louise Alexander. Foster and Alexander will be running against each other in the November 4 general election.

Tijuanna Adetunji has been recognized as one of the 14 candidates in the United States named to the RSLC’s Right Women, Right Now Project. Adetunji is another of the African Americans running as a Republican this year. She is the Republican candidate for HD78. The seat is currently held by 40-year incumbent Rep. Alvin Holmes. Adetunji and Holmes will face off in the general election on November 4.

Chairman Armistead issued the following statement:

“We are so very proud of Darius and Tijuanna for this special recognition by the RSLC. We have known for some time that both Darius and Tijuanna were very special people and the honor that has been bestowed upon them is well deserved. The Alabama Republican Party is excited that Darius and Tijuanna have been chosen as one of the 14 candidates in each group that are being recognized by the RSLC. Their recognition by the RSLC confirms that they are extremely well qualified to represent their constituents in the Alabama House. We look forward to working alongside of each of them to ensure their victories in November.”

RSLC Board Member Christine Toretti issued the following statement about the ’14 in ’14 Races to Watch:

“It is critical we ensure our Party reflects the full diversity of America and the RSLC’s Future Majority Project and ‘Right Women, Right Now’ initiative has been instrumental in guaranteeing that female and diverse Republican candidates are a part of the political conversation, both nationwide and at the state level,  I applaud the candidates recognized today in these ‘Races to Watch’ and thank them for leading the way to help us grow the Republican Party in their respective states.”
