BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Last night, 69 local Alabama Democrats at the Democratic Party National convention voted unanimously to nominate Barack Obama as their Presidential candidate.
“This news may come as a shock to many Alabama voters,” stated Bill Armistead, Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party. “After all of the claims from Democrat candidates running for office this year that they are still the conservative party your grandfather once belonged to, you have to wonder why that they would unanimously support the most radical, liberal President to ever inhabit the White House.
“It is amazing to me that not one of those Alabama Democrats was willing to take a stand against the liberal extremism Barack Obama continues to espouse,” continued Armistead. “That they would all support a candidate and a platform that seeks to redefine the sacred institution of marriage by supporting same-sex marriage is astounding. That they would blindly follow a man and a Party that believes in abortion on demand is heartbreaking. Where were they when God and Jerusalem were taken out of their platform? It took a nationwide furor and three voice votes to get God and Jerusalem reinserted, and even then it was still over the continued objections of many delegates. They are so out of step with Alabama values it is impossible for me to understand why voters in Alabama would support any candidate running on the Democrat Party ticket.
“I believe it can be said that what was left of the once conservative wing of the Alabama Democratic Party is dead and buried as of last night. The Party leaders have fully embraced Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and Debbie Wasserman Schultz .And, not one word from Alabama Democratic Party Chairman Mark Kennedy, or any Alabama Democrat in opposition to this radical platform. Not one word! Where were they when this platform was being crafted? Why didn’t we hear from them then? Kennedy has said in the past that Alabamians should embrace Barack Obama and apparently he is still clinging to the most out-of-step president in our history,” concluded Armistead.
