The special election to fill the vacancy in Alabama House District 49 took place today in Bibb, Chilton and Shelby Counties.
The seat became vacant when April Weaver was appointed as a Regional Director for the Department of Health and Human Services by President Donald Trump.
Provisional votes withstanding, below is a breakdown of votes received:
Russell Bedsole (R) – 1,599 (63.18%)
Cheryl Patton (D) – 930 (36.74%)

Provisional ballots will be counted on November 24, 2020 and the Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General will certify the election by December 9, 2020.
Despite results not being official, it appears Republican Russell Bedsole is the State Representative-elect for House District 49.
“We offer our congratulations to Russell Bedsole on his apparent victory. He will be a welcome addition to our majority in the Alabama House of Representatives. His platform and core convictions on the issues mirror those of his constituents and our Party. We look forward to working with Russell and thank him for his willingness to serve,” said Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan.
