The Alabama Republican Party closed candidate qualifying on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 5 p.m. A total of 189 candidates qualified with the state party. Hundreds of more candidates qualified with county parties throughout the state.
With the March 1 “SEC Primary” bringing focus to the Southern states and the largest field of Republican presidential candidates in our state’s history, Alabama qualified a total of 13 presidential candidates to appear on the ballot. In addition, over 400 delegates qualified for their candidate of choice.
At the federal level, 17 candidates qualified to run. Republicans currently hold six of the seven U.S. House seats and both seats in the U.S. Senate, all which are up for re-election with the exception of Senator Jeff Sessions.
Statewide,16 candidates qualified. Overall, three seats on the Alabama Supreme Court, four seats on the state board of education and the office of Public Service Commission President will appear on the ballot.
There were 62 candidates to qualify for Circuit Judge, 39 for District Judge and 42 for District Attorney. Overall, Alabama Republicans will participate in 38 state primary races. The March 1 Alabama Republican Primary will feature a total of 103 candidates on the ballot.
