2026 SEC Qualifying

Quick Checklist: Running for the ALGOP State Executive Committee in 2026

  • ✅ You are a Republican primary voter
  • ✅ You live in the county or district for the seat
  • ✅ You qualify January 5–23, 2026
  • ✅ You submit paperwork online or at ALGOP headquarters
  • ✅ You pay the $50 qualifying fee
  • ✅ Your race appears on the May 19, 2026 Republican Primary ballot

The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) State Executive Committee (SEC) is the governing body of the Alabama Republican Party.

Every four years, the majority of SEC seats come up for election and are chosen by Republican Primary voters on Primary Election Day.

Bonus seats and County Party Chairman seats do NOT appear on the Republican Primary ballot. Those seats are elected separately by their respective county parties at a later date.

In the 2026 election cycle, a total of 212 SEC seats appear on Republican Primary ballots statewide. These seats are divided among all 67 counties. Some seats are at-large county seats, while others represent specific districts within a county.

Who Can Run for an SEC Seat?

To qualify as a candidate for an SEC seat, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • ✅ Be a Republican primary voter
  • Live in the county or district for the seat you are seeking
  • File qualifying paperwork with ALGOP (online or in person)
  • Pay the $50 qualifying fee

Qualifying Dates & Deadlines ⏰

Qualifying for SEC seats opens:
Monday, January 5, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. CST

Qualifying closes:
Friday, January 23, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. CST

All paperwork and fees must be submitted by the closing deadline. Anyone who attempts to qualify after 5:00 p.m. CST on January 23, 2026 will not be granted ballot access.

How to Qualify

Candidates may qualify in one of the following ways:

  • Online: Complete the process through the ALGOP website
  • In Person: Alabama Republican Party Headquarters

Election Day 🗳️

The Republican Primary Election will be held on:

Tuesday, May 19, 2026

The candidate who receives the most votes for each SEC seat will be declared the winner.

SEC races do NOT go to a runoff election.

  • ✅ If you wish to change the SEC seat you have qualified for, you must re-qualify and pay an additional $50 fee
  • All qualifying fees are non-refundable
