Angus R. Cooper, III is this week’s Rising Republican Star. Born and raised in Mobile, Angus graduated from UMS-Wright Preparatory School before obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree from the Culverhouse College of Commerce at the University of Alabama. Upon graduation, Angus joined Herfurth & Co. Shipping GmbH in Antwerp, Belgium.
Angus now serves as Group President for Cooper/T. Smith, an Alabama corporation. He also is a member of the Corporate Executive Committee and serves as a Director on the Board for Cooper/T. Smith Corporation. The company has operations on all three U.S. coasts encompassing thirty-eight ports, and has foreign operations in Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Canada and Mexico.

Angus serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Alabama State Port Authority, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for UMS-Wright Preparatory School, Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust Board of Directors, 1st Vice Chairman of the Board of Alabama Wildlife Federation, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors, Bryant-Jordan Student Athlete Program Board of Directors, Bryant Bank Board of Directors, Treasurer for National Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE), and University of Alabama Delta Kappa Epsilon House Corporation Board of Directors and past Treasurer. He is a member of the Mobile Arts Sports Association (MASA), and also serves on the Culverhouse College of Commerce International Advisory Board. He has previously served on the Regions South Alabama Advisory Board, Board of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, The Salvation Army and Downtown Mobile Alliance & Main Street Mobile, Inc.
Angus has a goal to help raise awareness, financial support and most importantly votes for our Republicans statewide. He has been a member of the Governor’s Circle and Alabama 2014 since 2011. He, along with his lovely wife Gretchen, hosted a fundraiser at their home for the Alabama Republican Party with special guest Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Being a member of the State Finance Committee for Governor Bentley 2014, he organized a committee to host a fundraiser event at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Mobile. He is deeply committed to the future success of the Republican Party in Alabama. We are grateful to Angus for his on-going support of the Alabama Republican Party.
Angus is married to the former Gretchen H. VanBrackle of Richmond, Virginia and has four children, Angus IV (13), Harris Jackson (11), Mary Lynn (7) and Darden Brock (3).
