President Obama returned to the White House last night after a two week vacation to Martha’s Vineyard. Amidst an international crisis in the Middle East, a national crisis in Missouri and the beheading of American journalist James Foley by ISIS, President Obama practiced his golf swing by day and his dance moves by night. While on vacation, President Obama seemed to shut himself off from the rest of the country. His apparent disregard for the state of our nation is appalling.
While police used tear gas and smoke bombs to curb protesters armed with Molotov cocktails in Missouri, President Obama danced the night away in Martha’s Vineyard with the Clintons and other high-dollar guests. Many began begging the question: where are Obama’s priorities?
The day after the party, Obama gave a short press conference where he attempted to express concern over the “violent turn” of events in Ferguson. He stated there is no excuse for violence against police, or for police to use excessive force against non-violent protestors. Obama came dressed to the press conference in a plaid button-down, khakis and a blazer. An outfit more fit for lunch at the country club than a presidential press conference. In fact, less than 15 minutes after the press conference, Obama was seen teeing off on the course. These images do not portray ones of concern or of leadership. Obama breezed through the press conference and his message was clear; he just wanted to get back to his vacation.
>>>White House spokesman Eric Shultz claimed, “Just because the president is in a different location doesn’t mean he’s not doing his job.” I beg to differ, and nine rounds of golf in 12 days seem to prove it.
Soon after the FBI confirmed a video showing the beheading of American journalist James Foley by ISIS, Obama again spoke from a podium in Martha’s Vineyard. The beheading was a direct statement from ISIS that they are focused on harming the United States and its citizens. President Obama barely gave the issue a second thought. He stepped off the stage at the press conference and was driven off to another round of golf.
Last week The Blaze ran an article by Wayne Root, one of Obama’s classmates at Columbia University, titled “Do We Have a Sociopath in the White House?” In the article, Root said, “I believe we have a president who is an arrogant, egomaniacal sociopath”. Root went on to define sociopath as “a person with an antisocial personality disorder. They are often well liked because of their charm and high charisma, but they do not usually care about other people. They think mainly of themselves and often blame others for the things that they do. They have a complete disregard for rules and lie constantly. They seldom feel guilt or learn from punishments”.
The sad truth is President Obama is more concerned with his golf game than the state of our nation or our foreign policy. Can we truly be surprised? This has been the norm since Obama first took office. Since 2009, the president has played more than 185 rounds of golf. Expensive vacation homes, fine dining, spontaneous trips, private concerts by the world’s top music artists; Obama’s life seems more like that of a celebrity than a president.
Obama’s behavior gives new meaning to the phrase “Nero fiddles while Rome burns”. Obama couldn’t seem to care less about all the crises we find ourselves in. That must have been what Michael F. Scheuer, former head of the CIA’s Osama Bin Laden unit, had in mind last week when he said, “Obama doesn’t understand anything about what’s going on in the world.” He characterized Obama as a “Harvard intellectual who doesn’t want to face very real, very dangerous global problems”.
I’m sure that Obama enjoyed his two weeks of golf, biking, beach days, fine dining and parties, but it’s now it’s time to get to work, Mr. President. America needs a leader, not a slacker.
