Alabama Republicans Announce the Foundation for our Future
Mobile Businessman, Jerry Lathan tapped to lead effort
Birmingham, AL – The Alabama Republican Party has released details of its “Foundation for our Future” campaign, a new political and financial plan to secure good government at all levels for Alabama citizens. Foundation for our Future will build on the success of Campaign 2010 and grow the new Republican majority in Alabama through candidate recruitment and training, fundraising, and strengthening of local GOP committees and grassroots organizations.
“Campaign 2010 was an amazing success story,” said Bill Armistead, Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party. “To build on those historical achievements the Foundation for our Future will make sure we have the resources to remain competitive in 2012 and 2014. These efforts will be managed by a finance team led by successful Mobile businessman and long-time Republican activist Jerry Lathan, serving as Finance Chairman for the Alabama Republican Party.”
“I appreciate the trust Chairman Armistead has placed in me, and I look forward to this new responsibility,” stated Lathan. “The Foundation for our Future campaign is the most ambitious in our Party’s history. I am thrilled to lead this effort to build a foundation of Republican officials in the counties and to hold and expand our majorities in the State Legislature.”
The Alabama Republican Party has a sustaining membership level, the Capitol Club, which will be headed up by Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey. Capitol Club members are active Republicans committed to the success and growth of the Republican Party in Alabama at all levels.
“I am excited that Governor Bentley, Lieutenant Governor Ivey and other elected Republican officials from Montgomery to Washington are actively supporting the Foundation for our Future campaign,” stated Armistead. “I certainly appreciate their dedication and loyalty to the Party. Their own financial support to the Party should serve as an example to our other Republican officeholders and activists statewide.”
The Foundation for our Future campaign will target county level offices which will help local Republican Parties grow and increase the number of elected Republicans throughout the state. The party will also focus in 2012 on the remaining two statewide offices still held by Democrats, Public Service Commission President and Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice.
“We know that Alabama Democrats were stunned by their losses in 2010 and will do whatever they can to try and regain the ground they lost,” Armistead added. “But we are focused on running competitive campaigns from the ‘Court House to the White House’ and invite all conservative Alabamians to join us in our quest to keep the reins of government in firm, stable hands.”
