Bill to Repeal Common Core Passes Senate Committee

Montgomery, AL – The Senate Education Policy Committee approved a bill that would repeal and defund the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) which was adopted by the State Board of Education two years ago. This bill was presented by Senator Scott Beason (R-Gardendale) and was met with heavy opposition from Democrats on the committee. A resolution was passed in February by the ALGOP State Executive Committee requesting that the State Legislature defund the CCSS initiative and allow more information be released to the public for review.

“I appreciate the hard work of Senator Beason and the Education Policy Committee in passing this repeal of CCSS. I look forward to the Republican controlled Senate passing this bill and moving it to the House for passage.

“The ALGOP State Executive Committee and the Republican National Committee have both called Common Core State Standards exactly what it is – a gross overreach by the Federal Government. That seems to be the standard operating procedure for the Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. It appears that these Democrats are intent on creating programs and laws that take away state control. We must continue to defend our rights and oppose the Obama Administration at every turn as he and his Democrat cronies chip away at our individual freedoms” concludes ALGOP Chairman Bill Armistead.
